Artistic programme and profile lead

Would you like to help shape one of Denmark's most ambitious and forward-looking performing arts talent environments for children and young people?

At Friskolen for Scenekunst, we have ambitious artistic and educational goals. As a satellite school of The Royal Danish Theatre Ballet School for the past 24 years, we are built on a strong artistic foundation in both classical ballet and contemporary dance.

Today, our ambitions reach even further. We are creating a modern performing arts talent environment where excellence in ballet, contemporary dance, musical theatre, singing and creativity comes together within a strong school community.

An environment where children and young people encounter professional standards, artistic immersion and high expectations, while developing in a safe and supportive community where many more get the opportunity to dance, perform and create.

We believe that artistic excellence and wellbeing are not opposites. We believe they are prerequisites for one another.

We believe talent flourishes when the environment is healthy, the community is strong, and the teaching is of high artistic and educational quality. That is what a modern talent environment means to us.

That is why we are building a school for all of those who want to move the world.

Today, the school has 108 pupils aged 5 to 16, highly skilled artistic teachers and ambitious goals for the years ahead, including growth in both student numbers and strategic artistic partnerships and collaborations.

We are now looking for a person who will help shape the artistic development and strengthen the foundation of this vision.

A unique opportunity

It is rare to find a position that offers the opportunity to influence artistic direction, help develop the next generation of performing artists and contribute to building a new talent environment at the same time.

That is exactly what this role offers.

As the person responsible for the school's Artistic Programme, Profile and Productions, you will be a key driver in the continued development of our artistic offering and identity.

You will have the opportunity to influence what a modern performing arts talent environment for children and young people should look like, bringing together artistic excellence, strong pedagogy, professional didactics and a healthy learning environment.
A modern artistic talent environment where performing arts, education and personal development go hand in hand.

You will work closely with the school's leadership team, staff and board, and will have significant influence on the school's artistic development and position within the performing arts landscape.

Your key responsibilities

Your primary focus will be to develop and strengthen the school's artistic programme, profile and position in close collaboration with the artistic team and the leadership team.

Among other things, you will:

  • Further develop the school's overall performing arts programme for all grades 0-9th together with both artistic and academic teachers.
  • Create coherence between schooling, modern talent development and artistic practice.
  • Strengthen and further develop the school's artistic identity and position.
  • Maintain and develop the partnerships with our existing collaborators, including Odense Theatre, Odense Symphony Orchestra, The Royal Danish Theatre and Danish Dance Theatre.
  • Develop new partnerships with artists, foundations, cultural institutions and relevant professional environments in Odense, in Denmark and internationally.
  • Support and inspire the school's artistic teachers through professional sparring and development.
  • Contribute to the development of performances and other projects that support artistic development.
  • Ensure that artistic practice is professionally, pedagogically and didactically grounded.
  • Teach selected classes within your artistic field.
  • Hold overall responsibility for productions and performances in close collaboration with the school's Administrative Leader.

We are looking for someone who

Has a strong artistic background within one of our three artistic disciplines and is motivated to contribute to the school's ongoing development and future ambitions.

You may come directly from professional performing arts practice as an artist, performer, choreographer or creative practitioner. You may have experience from an artistic educational institution, a talent development environment or a previous artistic leadership role.

We are looking for someone who can translate artistic visions into practice while navigating the intersection of artistic quality, pedagogy and personal development.
You understand how to develop both people and artistic environments, and you thrive in collaboration across disciplines, where openness, curiosity, professionalism, mutual respect, helpfulness and honesty are central values.

It is most important to us that you:

  • Have experience working at a high artistic level within ballet, contemporary dance or musical theatre.
  • Wish to contribute to the development the school's artistic profile through collaboration and shared practice.
  • Are motivated to create environments where children and young people can realise their potential and experience the joy of artistic immersion as a natural part of everyday school life.
  • Want to help create what may become the world's first school that develops performing arts talent at a high artistic level through a genuinely broad and inclusive approach.
  • Can communicate professionally in both written and spoken Danish.

What we offer

  • The opportunity to shape a performing arts talent environment in development.
  • Significant influence on the school's artistic direction and future development.
  • Collaboration with committed and passionate colleagues, including academic teachers, leaders, artistic teachers and technical and administrative staff.
  • The opportunity to work with artistic development, modern talent development and learning environments in close interaction.
  • The opportunity to represent and strengthen the school's artistic profile externally.
  • A workplace characterised by high ambitions, strong values and a strong sense of community.
  • The opportunity to help develop young people with courage, creativity, artistic integrity and the ability to make an impact in the world.

The position

This is a full-time position dedicated to the artistic development and operation of the school within the areas of Programme, Profile and Productions. You will report directly to the Principal and work closely with the school's leadership team, consisting of a Principal, an Administrative Leader and a Pedagogical Leader.

This is not a formal management or leadership position and does not include personnel responsibility. However, you will hold significant responsibility for artistic development and operations and will take part in strategic discussions and collaborations with the leadership team when relevant. The position is based in Odense.

Salary and employment conditions will be negotiated in accordance with the applicable framework for Danish independent and private schools.
