MeerKat Dance Theatre - Contemporary dancers
Open call: Contemporary dancers (Aarhus)
MeerKat Dance Theatre is looking for professional Aarhus-based dancers to join the LOSER team for our residency exploring Lecoq based clown techniques in contemporary dance making. The 3 week residency is a paid full-time position and the research will be led by choreographer Marie Keiser-Nielsen.
Where: Queer Arts Studios, Aarhus
When: Dec 5th-Dec 23rd 2022
THE PROJECT:
LOSER is a performance project mixing contemporary dance and physical theatre. The project is about losing the battle, and about losing control. LOSER moves in a space of uncertainty, of laughter and vulnerability.
Rather than a new aesthetic, we are looking for a new process to bring about an honest physicality on stage. We do not intend to make dancing clowns or clowning dancers, but using clown techniques as a tool for contemporary dance training in order to strengthen presence, audience contact and playfulness in choreography and finding a new language for physical, post-dramatic expressions.
During the residency, we will host free open workshops for the local performance community. At the end of the residency, there will be a public sharing at Q&A Studios.
THE CHOREOGRAPHER:
Marie Keiser-Nielsen has a vast experience of Lecoq based clown methods from an MA in Physical Theatre for International ensembles. She has studied clown techniques with Complicité actors Nick Barnfather, Ally Cologna and Annabel Arden. She continues to be inspired by the merger of contemporary dance and physical theatre and she has taught clown workshops for the National Dance Company of Malta (Zfín Malta).
TO APPLY:
Please contact us at meerkatdancetheatre@gmail.com with CV, a short text expressing your specific interest in participating in LOSER, and link to a short video reel of your work.
