Tenors wanted for Malmö Opera Choir!

Our chorus is an ensemble of 36 positions, and we are now looking for new colleagues. We welcome your application.

Job description and qualifications

Malmö Opera chorus perform a wide range of music drama, opera, and concerts with the highest international standards. We intend to appoint full-time positions for the following voice types:

  • Tenor 1
  • Tenor 2

As a member of the Malmö opera chorus, you will contribute with curiosity, openness, competence, and tolerance to an internationally successful and well-respected ensemble. It is essential for Malmö Opera that the successful candidate contributes to creating healthy cooperation and quality results across all the exciting and diverse contexts it produces.

 

Furthermore, candidates need to have:

  • higher education in singing from a recognised institution
  • experience in both opera, musicals, and concert repertoire as a soloist and as a chorister
  • good sight-reading ability in music and languages, as well as ability to memorise music quickly
  • good acting skills and stage experience

 

Application process

Candidates must submit a recording with their application. This recording may not be more than two years old and should be an aria or lied with piano or orchestral accompaniment. After reviewing the recordings, selected candidates will be invited to attend the audition.

Malmö Opera is in no way responsible for the planning or costs involved in candidates attending the audition.

 

Audition by invitation

The Audition will take place on 13-14th of May 2025 at Malmö Opera, Östra Rönneholmsvägen 20 (Malmö, Sweden)

 

Candidates must prepare:

  • by memory, one compulsory aria from the list below.
  • (opera/oratorio aria/lied) in two different languages.
  • compulsory chorus excerpts. Candidates selected for audition will be informed of these excerpts at the time of invitation. These excerpts are not required to be from memory.

 

Round 1

Each candidate sings their choice of compulsory aria and one of their own selected arias.

Round 2

Candidates chosen for Round 2 each sing the second of their own selected arias, the compulsory chorus excerpts, and a prima vista (sight-reading). 

Interview

At the conclusion of Round 2, some candidates may be invited to an interview with the audition jury.

Employment conditions

Employment will commence on November 1, 2025, or as agreed. The position is permanent with a one-year trial period. Non-EU citizens (except for the Nordic countries) need a work and residence permit to work in Sweden. Malmö Opera cannot guarantee that permits will be granted by the authorities.

Malmö Opera is the heart and voice of music drama in Southern Sweden. The house was opened in 1944 and is situated in the center of the Öresund region comprising Southern Sweden and Eastern Denmark, only 25 minutes by train from Copenhagen. The main auditorium holds an audience of 1500, and the stage is one of the largest in Europe.
