Kemi City Orchestra and The Sea Lapland String Quartet (Meri-Lapin jousikvartetti) announces an opening for a substitute principal 2nd violin and teaching position for a period of 10 October 2022 – 7 March 2023.

The Sea Lapland String Quartet (Meri-Lapin jousikvartetti) was founded in 1983 to enhance string instrument training as well as to increase regional concerts in the area of Sea-Lapland, Finland.

Quartet musicians form the core of Kemi City Orchestra, acting in the orchestra as principals of their instrument groups. Quartet musicians also teach at the Sea-Lapland Music Institute. The Sea Lapland String Quartet has its own classical music concert series. In addition to this, they give concerts for the benefit of their operating locations in Kemi, Tornio, Tervola and Simo. Quartet has also performed abroad, most recently on a tour in Japan in 2019.

When choosing the candidates for this position we value experience in chamber music and orchestra playing as well as good cooperation and interaction skills.

Tasks include teaching obligation at the Sea Lapland Music Institute.
Audition may include an interview.

Audition will be held on Friday, October 7, 2022 from 1 p.m.
at Kemi Cultural Centre Sointu Hall

Audition requirements

  • Mozart: Violin Concerto No. 3 in G, No. 4 in D or No. 5 in A, 1st movement with cadenzas
  • chamber music assignments, which will be sent to chosen applicants by email right after the application period has finished.
  • We will provide accompanist, use of your own by your own expenses is also allowed.
