Clarinet - United States Military Academy Band

Section clarinet in the concert and marching bands of the West Point Band. Perform for local, national, and international audiences in support of the West Point community, the United States Military Academy, and the United States Army. Perform with chamber ensembles that range in musical genre. Secondary duties related to the day-to-day functioning of the West Point Band will be assigned based on experience, knowledge, interest, and/or needs of the unit.

Job Description

  • Section clarinet in the concert and marching bands of the West Point Band.

  • Secondary duties related to the day-to-day functioning of the West Point Band will be assigned based on experience, knowledge, interest, and/or needs of the unit.

Qualifications

Professional performance level; Bachelor of Music degree or higher preferred (not required); Eb clarinet experience and/or woodwind doubling skills preferred (not required); Ability to meet Army initial entry requirements and maintain a professional appearance - the hired candidate will be required to march in ceremonial formations and stand for prolonged periods of time; Must be a US citizen or other qualified resident; Position requires at least a four year service contract - candidate will be informed of acceptance prior to enlistment.

Military Personnel

Military personnel must also submit their Soldier Record Brief (or equivalent) without photo, three years of performance evaluation reports, and a Commander’s Intent to Release memo.

 

Salary & Benefits

Annual salary $63,369.97 - $71,721.97 upon promotion to Staff Sergeant

  • Mozart: Clarinet Concerto in A Major, K. 622 - Exposition
  • The Official West Point March - opening to end of first strain (first note of 2nd ending, without repeats/1st ending); measure 52 of Trio to the end
  • Coleridge-Taylor: Clarinet Quintet - Mvt. 2, opening to 5th measure of N
  • Gershwin: Rhapsody in Blue - opening clarinet solo (first 16 measures)
  • Additional excerpts on Bb/A clarinet or auxiliary clarinets that showcase musical expertise
  • Excerpts on additional instruments and/or voice to showcase doubling abilities, if applicable.

Recording should not exceed 30 minutes total.
