Trombone

The Norwegian Wind Ensemble is seeking a classically-trained trombone player. We are looking for a versatile and curious musician who is comfortable moving between different roles within the section and is able to perform with stylistic conviction across all of our genres, from historical music to contemporary jazz.

The ideal candidate is a strong classical soloist, and someone who can take on a leadership role of the trombone section as well as being a supportive tutti player.

Leadership on the podium is shared among the members of the section according to genre. The primary role for this position is leading classical programs.

You should be a dedicated team player, willing to invest in not only the artistic development of our orchestra but also committed to taking an interest in the inner workings of our orchestra’s democracy.

The position requires playing sackbut, however, choice of instruments for the audition repertoire is up to the candidate and will not affect the outcome.

Real time music is one of the ensemble's focus areas. Candidates will be asked to perform a simple, free, and short improvisation as part of the audition.
